Official WaR Clan Card Game thread

In this thread, we will be discussion the creation of the WaR Clan's very own [johnny] Card Game. Before we start voicing our suggestions, let us hear from the mighty Zaifos so he can tell us about the foundation of the game that he has already come up with. Then we can all build off of him. Since you guys started a thread, I'll use this thread.

HERE'S A SNEAKERONI PEEKERONI at what ive been doing.

Edit: If you didn't know, theres a game on Steam called Tabletop Simulator, thats what we'll be using for war tcg

Heres a ruleset (subject to change)

For simplicity, feel free to replace Edge Value with attack, Dignity Value with Health, Server with Field, and Connecting with Summoning, etc.
Also connection quality is a mana system similar to hearthstone.

Card Types:
"Users"
-Users are the front line battlers in the Official WaR Clan CCG. Each User card has an Edge value, Dignity value,
Connection Quality, and Recoil Value.
-User cards can have special abilities unique to each card, and are explained on the cards themselves.
-These values are explained in the gameplay section.
"Memes"
-Memes are special abilities and magics used by the players.
-Most meme cards tend to have unique effects, explained on the cards themselves.

"Trickeries"
-Trickery cards are similar to Meme cards but activate when certain conditions after being 'set'.
-Trickery cards cannot be activated the turn they are played.

"Quality"
-Quality cards are continuous effects to either Users (any player's) or to the Server itself (which affects all players).
-Most Quality cards tend to have unique effects, explained on the cards themselves.
-Some Quality cards may have a "slot", which is mentioned on the card.
-Multiple Quality cards with the same "slot" cannot be equipped to the same User. You can willingly discard a the card using that Slot
to equip a new quality card.
-Any number of quality cards without slots can be equipped at once.
-Quality cards, unlike meme's, do not have a Dignity cost.

Deck Building:

Every Card has a certain AFFINITY

Maximum/Minimum Deck Size TBD

Gameplay:
After building decks, each player draws X cards. [Starting Hand Size TBD]

Every Turn has a Draw phase, Main phase, and End phase unless a unique ability or meme prevents/skips a phase.

Each draw phase, the player taking his turn draws a card. Any effects that say "resolved on draw phase"
are resolved.
If a player cannot draw a card due to their deck being completely empty, they automatically LOSE the duel. [Probably changing]

The Main phase is where most of the game takes place. During this, the player
taking a turn can connect users to the server, spew memes, or show off quality cards.

Any abilities that are "resolved on the main phase" are resolved immediately after a player draws and the phase begins.

Connecting Users to the Server
-If a player wishes to connect a User to the server they need to take note of both the
Server, the User's Connection Quality, and the Server's User limit.

===Connection Quality Explained==
-Connection Quality is a limiter on what and when Users can connect to the server.

-On the first turn of play, the Connection Quality of the server is 2. Subsequent turns increase the turn players CQ by 1. If you end a turn without using any of your CQ, you gain an extra CQ when your next turn starts (+2 rather than +1)
-If a User's Connection quality is GREATER than the server's connection quality,
it CANNOT connect to the server unless a special effect is in play.
-Connecting a User to the server temporarily decreases the connection quality until the end of that player's turn.
ex: The Server's Connection Quality is 3, and Satros connects a User with a Quality of 2. This causes the Server's Quality
to decrease to 1 and more users can only be connected if their value is <= the new server connection quality.
-If Connection Quality ever increases or decreases, monsters ALREADY on the server are not affected and remain on the server.

===Setting and Playing Users===
-A User can be Set face down on the field (up to a maximum of five)
-Abilities of a User card are not in effect until after a User has been flipped face up
-Users that are face down at the start of a main phase cannot attack during the main phase,
but can be flipped face up

Server User Limit
-A player can have a maximum of five user's connected to the server by default. This can be altered by meme's and abilities.

Official Users
-Official Users are powerful and unique cards outside of the deck that either play can use.
-In order to connect an Official User they must sacrifice two or more users from the server that match affinities
specified on the Official User cards.
-Some Official User cards require more specific sacrifices, like Exact card names, required minimum recoil values, etc.
-Official Users still must follow Connection Quality and User Limit rules unless their abilities say otherwise.
-There is only one copy of each individual Official User, and only one player can be using a particular Official User at a time.
-Any number of Official Users can be in play as long as Connection Quality and User Limit rules are not conflicted.
-Official Users when destroyed through Battle or other means are returned to the Official Users side deck, rather than discarded,
and can be reconnected once again by either player with sacrifices.
-If an Official User has a Recoil value, damage is taken as normal. See "Monster Destruction and Recoil Value" for more details.

User Battles
===Edge Values===
-Edge values determine how much Dignity another User loses when they are attacked in battle. If the attacker's edge value is greater than the defender's Dignity Value, they are immediately destroyed and counter damage isnt applied.
-If an Edge value is less than the dignity value of a defending monster, the defender's dignity value is reduced
by the attacker's edge value and the defending user counterattacks, dealing their own edge value as damage.

===Dignity Values===
-Dignity Values determine a User's defense against edge values. See edge values for information on how they interact.
-Dignity Values can also be decreased through other card types, see "Spewing Memes" for details.

===Monster Destruction and Recoil Value===
-When a monster is destroyed through a User Battle deal their Recoil value to the controlling player's Life Points.
-Monsters destroyed by any other means (Meme cards, sacrifices) do not deal recoil damage.

===Choosing a target===
-If an opposing User is on the server, they cannot use their Edge value to attack the opposing player directly and must
choose to attack another User or not attack at all.
-If no opposing Users are on the server, you can use a User's Edge Value to deal damage to their Life points directly.

===Setting and Playing Memes and Trickeries===
-A Meme/Trick can be Set face down on the field (up to a maximum of five[TBD]) prior to activating
-If a meme/trickery requires a certain action to be taken i.e. (after a User connects, xxx happens) it MUST have been previously SET on the field.
-Memes that do not require certain actions can be played straight from the hand, without adding to the maximum meme counts.

-Tricks MUST have been set on the field and can never be played straight from the hand.
-If a Trick is activated and has a Dignity Cost, it is paid normally, but MUST be paid to activate the card.
-If a Trick's Dignity Cost cannot be paid, it is returned to face-down set position, and not discarded.

-Memes/Tricks that are already 'set' CANNOT be discarded or returned to the hand except by the effects of another Meme/Trickery card.

===Forced Memes and Constant Tricks===
-Forced Memes/Constant Tricks are meme/trick cards that stay in play after activation with continuous effects.
-Forced Memes/Constant Tricks continue to count against the set meme/trick limit, see "Setting and Playing Memes and Trickeries"
-Forced Memes/Constant Tricks can only be removed either when their effects end (which is stated on the cards) or when they are discarded, negated, or removed due to another meme/trick card or user ability.

Showing Quality Cards

===Playing Quality Cards===
-Quality cards cannot be 'Set' on the field, and can only be equipped/used directly from the hand.

===Equipping===
-When a quality card is equipped, it's effects last until either the monster dies or the card is unequipped. In either case, the card is discarded unless an ability or meme is preventing/altering it.
-Any number of Quality cards can be equipped to a single User as long as there are no Slot conflicts. See "Slots" below.

===Slots===
-Quality cards cannot be equipped to the same slot(s), but can be removed to equip new items, and any effects are lost upon removal.

===Quality Cards that affect the Server===
-These are designated as Server-Quality cards.
-Only one Server-Quality card can be in play at a time, and it affects all users, memes, and quality cards.
-If a Server-Quality card is already in play, it is discarded immediately when another Server - Quality card is activated

The End phase is simply a designator for End of Turn resolutions, and any card that is "resolved during the End phase" or "at the end of a turn is resolved.
If players End a turn with more than X cards in their hands, they must discard until they are at X number of cards. [Max Hand Size TBD]

Winning and Losing
Players lose when either their life points are reduced to zero or their deck is becomes empty. [Deck loss rules probably getting altered]
Players win when the enemies life points are reduced to zero.

-Negate the activation of a meme card. Search your deck and add a True card to your hand. Only one True card can be activated per turn.
Passworded Channel
-Negate the connection of a User, if successful, destroy that User.
Demerit
-Target User loses 5 Dignity Value. This damage can be lethal, and causes Recoil Damage if the User is destroyed.

-Memes-
Let It Go
-Target a User. Destroy all quality cards equipped to that user.
TV Steal
-Reveal the top 3 cards of the opposing player's deck. Discard one, return the other two to the deck in any order.
Speedrun
-While this card is on the field, Connection Quality increases by 2 per turn (instead of 1)
Body Pillows
-Increase the Dignity Value of Zaifos and any Weeabu affinity User by 5.
Chimp Out
-Double the Edge Value of any User, at the end of the turn it is destroyed.
Shirts Off
-Choose one of your User's and an Opponents User. The two Users immediately battle dealing dignity damage to one another.
Kick
-Target a User card and destroy it and deal Recoil Damage. At the end of the turn, it returns to the field.
Ban
-Target a User card and destroy it and deal Recoil Damage.
BR BR
-Connect two BR tokens onto the opposing player's server. These tokens 0/1 and they can not attack, be tributed for official users. These tokens count against the User Limit.
Merit
-Target User gains 5 Dignity Value
The Swamplord Cometh
-Every time a card with "Bogs" in it's name is activated or connected, add a bogs token to this card. when this card has 5 bogs tokens, connect The Eastham Finisher to the field.

-Target a User. All Dignity and Edge values of that User are returned to base values, and all quality cards are unequipped and discarded.

-Choose any User in either player's discard. Connect to the field without connection costs.
Polymerization
-This card allows the summoning of an Official User with only one matching Affinity required.
Mystical Space Typhoon
-Destroy a meme/trickery card.
Structure Deck
-Name a single card. Both players search their decks. If either player has this card, add it to their hand.
Raigeki
-Destroy all opposing Users. This Dignity Cost can only be paid with Life Points.

Firstly, this is amazing.

Secondly, what exactly do the #/# #/# for the Users represent? Idk which ones are edge, dignity, or connection cost.

Thirdly, how many types of affinities do we want? The ones we have now I think are great, as long as they each have around the same amount of total cards for each affinity. Also, I think the number of generic cards should definitely outnumber the number of any individual affinity type, and the generic cards should be able to benefit any User or Official User in some way. For example, "When G-Bombz is played, he also spawns a 1/1 Puppet. If the G-Petto Puppet Cabinet server quality card is active, spawn a 3/1 Pippoccio instead. If there is already a Puppet on the server, and the Puppet Cabinet server is active, spawn a 4/3 G-Petto instead." In this case Puppet, Pippoccio, and G-Petto would all be generic type Users, so if any player draws them from their deck, they can use them as regular Users. So I think everyone should think of a bunch of generic users that are versatile and well, generic. I think the affinity cards are great but some of them seem pretty OP, especially in comparison to the Official Users, but this is literally the earliest stages and we can balance them later.

Fourthly, I think once we have all of the cards we want/don't want written down, we'll be able to better determine deck and hand sizes. Same thing goes for life points once we decide all of the edge values and stuff, so we should just focus on coming up with more cards for now. Which leads to

Fifthly! How many cards of each type (user, meme, etc.) do we want per affinity? and do you agree or disagree with generic types having more? I think I'm going to take a look at Hearthstone and stuff just to get an idea of how many cards they have of each type and stuff, but let me know what you guys think. After we decide on an estimated number for each affinity and card type, I'll easily start brainstorming some dank cards.

the #/# #/# were really quick baseline Connection Cost/Recoil Value Edge value/Dignity Value, all changing most likely though, since idk how long id like duels to last, etc

I was thinking 2-3 duplicates max, but some will be limited to a single card (similar to how legendaries are handled in hearthstone, or limited cards in yugioh) I was leaning more towards 3 max.
Also, I'm more than happy using the most "generic" cards, but it was more like affinity = source of the cards. However, Generic was meant to be more formless war clan memes (not really an 'untyped' kind of card), while others have their own sources. Might be hard to do that.

Also, some cards DO seem OP, like ss god goku, or Egyptian god card, however, around turn 10(when CQ=10), the game should probably already be decided and 2-3 turns later the game will probably be over. And he can't even get that until turn 10 with the effects. Also the OP yugioh cards are handled the same way. More like lategame affinity types versus the bogs/rune which are earlier game/swarming. Which in their own way, swarming counters single huge monsters (since they cant attack directly if anything is on the field)
So far, Dota 2 seems like a midgame deck, which will probably be eaten alive by the other affinities. Seems more like Users with kinda unique effects.

Rune was more like spreading equips around for a bunch of strong(er) cards.

Okay, Goodnight Rose could work realistically if its ability was to discard your entire hand and draw a new one, which would work well if your hand was garbage.

The Killing Floor affinity added something new, "unlimited" cards/cards that ignore the limit to the number of duplicates.
