Official Final Legend lore topic

I'm pretty sure there's a bunch of you guys that are pretty curious into the whole Final Legend thing i'm working on. Well that's what this thread is for, it's to kind of demystify the series that i'd been working on for about five years now.

Final Legend takes place on a universe somewhat parallel to ours, on a large continent known as Thule, which is roughly the size of Russia and China combined, with a few island chains and whatnot.

Their planet is known as Erthu (from anglo-saxon, literally meaning Earth, they just say Erthu) and it has a few unique features in it's orbit and galaxy. Erthu has two moons, and a belt surrounding it kinda like Saturn, and as you would guess, Erthu would have a fucking beautiful night sky.

The above is a map of Thule, lol done in MS paint and I'll elaborate on the countries in the later posts.

Religion wise, the inhabitants of Thule follow a paganistic pantheon. They have a god for a certain something, such as medicine or war. Their alphabet is a mixture is Cyrrilic and Gothic ( although they speak english to me or you in the story or we wouldnt wtf they are saying)

Countries:

Wallachia, it's the northern most country. It's comprised of rugged, mountainous terrain, and often icey. It's forests are of the taiga varieties with some coniferous slapped in. The climate can be quite harsh, it can get really hot at day in the summer ( up to ~104 degrees F) or really cold in the winter ( ~ -23 degrees below 0 F)

The people here are known to be light skinned , fair haired, tall, and are thought to be the root race in Thule.

The architecture is based off of old gothic churches and cathedrals, Wallachians are also crazy about stained glass windows.

Wallachia's government uses an old feudal system, with Kings, lords and vassals and so on. Their prized military units are known as the Paladins, holy warriors who fight for a higher cause, although some question their demeanor towards others as somewhat disturbing. They have been recorded to murder populations based on religion or ethnicity.

Wallachias main military forces are built up of Landsknechts, men who are skilled with spears and longswords, and make up the bulk of their army.

Final Legend is a game, right? If so, except the elaborate story and concept art sound good and lore friendly. But did you start making the engine, models, crap, shit, more crap, bushes to crap in, trees to piss on, even more crap, shit, dialogues (I can help here :D), assfucks, whores, shit and stuff?

P.S.: Wallachia is the part of Romania I live in >.> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallachia.

EDIT: Use M&B engine :D or a heavily modified source engine

Countries: West March

Considered the one of the most developed countries, with a roman republic government system. They use greekish architecture, and hold some of the most advanced technologies in the known world.

Their prized troops are the Black Knights, a small, secluded order of twelve men, but they are highly trained and efficient, widely known for their glossy black and dark blue mithril armour and weapons. When it comes to fighting behind lines, these men are your best bet.

West March's bulk troops are musketeers and cavalry men. Their peferred weapons are sabres, rapiers and rifles/crossbows.

Final Legend is to be a game if i can ever sell off or publish the idea to a developer, and even then i'll probably help with the design and direction.

The gameplay plan is that it's gonna be a modified source engine, with a highly intuitive combat system likened to melee, with support for first or third person view.

An example for controls would be the mouse click would swing your weapon, and your swing is context sensitive to the direction you're movin' ( like Rune ). Clicking mouse 3 would change your style of attack. So for example, a Bastard Sword in game would have 1 basic two handed grip, and two other grips to cycle from. So with a bastard sword, the player could use two hands, one hand, or halfsword ( one hand on grip, other on blade, for spear like attacks). I plan there to be a lot of weapons, and a lot of different functionalities for them!

And yes, i got the name Wallachia from the Romanian area, and a lot of the in game creatures that are specific to that region will be based from Romanian folklore ( monsters such as demons, baba yaga, vampires, and forgot the name of those spirits that shapeshift.)

EDIT: I remember the name of that shapeshifting spirit now! they're called Strigvoi.

The next country in the story is Kokaido.

This is the typical Asian country, although their architecture has a few west asian implements as well.

Their main form of gov't is Feudal. You know, kings, lords, vassals that sort of deal.

Their premier military force are Samurai, these warriors are skilled with spears such as the Yari and longswords such as the Tachi ( a type of one handed Katana)

The other military units are the Kokaido Cavalary men and musketeers.

Kokaido is famous for it's literature, culture, and art.

The next country is Rumancia, which is somewhat under developed, and was recently formed after the Holy War of 1489.

They have a very agricultural society, and have a basic democratic system, in which their king is chosen by popular mandate instead of kingship being hereditary.

Rumancia is known for it's Guerrila units, who employ a mixture of weapons, from glaives to pikes, katana to zweihander, they use whatever means necessary to take down the opposition.

Most of their military might comes from a patriotic militia.

Yish-Hadun is the northern-most desert country to the south. It's mostly regarded as a wasteland besides the only living city near the delta. The region is mostly arid and is dotted with ruins of a very ancient civilization.

So expect pyramids and shit.

Also they don't have much of an army, although their city has seemingly impregnable walls.

Their troops are mostly militia armed with mameluke sabres, scimitars, and muskets.

They wear the typical lamellar armour of the middle-east.

Up next is Karish-Hadun, which is a lot richer and has a lot more living cities than it's northern friend. Karish-Hadun is well respected for their neutrality, and for their great seers and developments in medicine.

The country is relatively peaceful, but they are well known for their highly skilled horseback archery.

the territory of Grosseveet is wella territory.

It's mostly uninhabited, but the country of Sveet is planning to colonise it. Grossesveet seems to be dotted with many more ancient ruins than Yish-Hadun, added more to the rumour of a now extinct people.

Sveet is up next. Sveet is a country of wealthy merchants, and is even called the land of gold, since it's capital city's castle has gold plated roofs, that shine brilliantly in the sun.

Sveet is known for it's heavy artillery, muskets, arqubusiers, cannons, you name it.

The last of the countries to go over are located the far north east, on the island knows as Ivandyl.

Ivandyl has a highly west-asian influence when it comes to their architecture. Although as alike as the people of Ivandyl may seem, the people have a bit of a hatred for each other, ever since their Civil War. Three countries in total cover this Island.

Svartheim is the home of the dwarves, master smiths and magicians. The country is settled on the northern peninsula.

Ivan is to the west, known for it's strong cavalry and strong arm tactics.

Dyl to the east, known for it's excellent guerillas and assassins.

Although the two countries of Ivan and Dyl are united, it won't take much to spark another war. Relations have been abysmal with the two since the beginning of the first civil war in the 1300's.

Records and tales of ethnic cleansing and genocide are abound, and these stories do much to keep these people apart.

That's it for the countries in the story world! I'm going to eleborate now on the denizens and monsters of each region..

Wallachia, as i've said before, has lots of creatures based from Romanian folklore, some from Norse and Germanic lore as well.
You'll run into shit like Strigvoi, ethereal shape shifting entities which are undead. In fact, most of Wallachia's monster are of the undead variety. You'll find zombies, which are very hard to kill, and they aren't too stupid. Some will be using axes, spears and swords, and an armed zombie attack can turn out deadly real quick, as they can form shield walls and etc,.

You'll find vampires. The difference is that these vampires can walk out in daylight, although powerless. But as soon as night time hits, you'll find that prostitute in the street humped over screaming, and as you reach for her shoulder to find ot what's wrong, shell rear up with a massive mouth of dagger like teeth, and freakish claws on her hands ready to fucking disembowl you.

In the world of Thule, you've got to be fucking careful.

West March has creatures based off Roman, Greek and French folklore. Youll find Black Beasts, which are like big black wolves that cross breeded with a bear, Minotaurs, Harpies and the like. You get the idea. Also zombies. Well zombies tend to be a common thing through out the story.

Rumancia has a mixture of the above two. Just that they have a bigger undead problem since most of their fields have had battles fought over them.

Kokaido has the typical japanese/chinese type creatures, Kappas and serpents and shit.

Anything south of Rumancia is pretty much middle eastern/north african in origin. Monster's like Anubis things and mummies and shit.

Ivandyl is a little unique. They seem to have more Demons, and also the occasional Dragon or two.

There's some universal enemies, such as bandits, brigands and highwaymen. Undead are pretty universal as well.

A general rule though is don't go adventuring at Night, because that's when all the creepy shit comes out to play. Those same woods you visited earlier won't be the same. At night, you'll hear leaves crunching around you in the pitch black wilderness. You'll hear little children giggling, the entire fucking shabang yamean?

Atmosphere wise, the game/story is pretty dark and realistic. Plague victims moan and lay about the city streets, some are even just dead at the side of the road. A scary thing is that dead plague victims do 'get up' at night.

There's a lot to explore. Each region/country has their own unique dungeon sets. Wallachia has old ruined and abandoned castles dotting the landscape, along with barrows and ice crystal filled caves.

West March has roman styled catacombs and temples, Rumancia has thick lush forests, Kokaido has asian themed castles and dungeons.

As you would expect, anything south of Rumancia is pretty much Pyramids, tombs and caves, with a few jungles.

During certain points in the main questline, you'll have to enter a portal to Hell, which is mostly a black void in space with floating landscapes, with old, looming ruined arches showing up in the distance from light emitted by lightning.

The Romanian Monster is actually called Strigoi. There is also the Moroi, which is actually not the same with the Strigoi. There's also the Pricolici, which resembles a werewolf goblin. Baba Yaga is a Russian monster ;D. If you need more help with the lore of Wallachia, I'm here.

Much appreciated! i knew it was Strig-somthing.

Weren't you making a Final Legend map for Rune?

So is this shit actually gonna happen? Once you get some concept art, I could write you some muziks, brah.  :datass:

Yes, the maps and stuff were based from this. Most of what i published for Rune were the bits of pieces of a full MOD i was planning.

Alas, i figured it would be better just to save up that creativity untl i could get the actual game developed.

That would be nice!

The art direction will be based off of those old mannerism paintings and also those post-black death paintings with all the undead rounding folks up..

Here, i'll just show you an example.

That music direction would be acoustic. no, not American west acoustic, but European acoustic. Shit like lutes, flutes and bagpipes and organs. The only time this differs is the fighting/dungeon themes which will have some screeching electric guitars.

In Final Legend, there are five distinct breeds of Aryan (They're like our humanoid cousins)..

Norden: These are the inhabitants of Wallachia. Tall and fair haired, they are born warriors. Because of their height they are naturally excellent with weapons such as longsword and polearms. They have a passive bloodlust, and as such gain chi faster during combat.

Occiden: Their name meaning 'West', these people hail from West March. Moderate in size, and have a wide variety of hair colour.
They make a decent anything, and are well balanced. One of the best races to start out with. These people are best known for marksmanship, but they also prefer the broadsword or rapier in close quarters. They are naturally skilled marksman, and have a bonus where reloading time on firearms is decreased.

Rumansk: The forest dwellers of Rumancia, they are short to moderate in height usually, and make awesome guerilla warriors.
As they are small in stature, they aren't that great with large weaponry, and prefer the use of shortswords, daggers, and other farming equipment they use as weaponry (Scythes, sickles, hammers, axes, pitchfork etc)
Think caucasian ninjas, their sneak attacks do 5x the normal damage.

Kokaidan: Moderate sized, asian type. They seem to be a cross breed of Rumansk and Norden, and have dark to fair hair.
They seem to have invented their own style of weaponry. They excel most at mounted combat, as from the time their warriors are at the age of seven, they are given a young horse from which they will train and grow up with. They prefer lances and spear weapons such as the Yari or Naginata, but are also known to use the Tachi and Otachi. They have a speed bonus ( more so than usual) on horseback.

Na Jih: The dwellers of the arid wastelands to the south. They are tall and dark skinned. These people are skilled fighters, who prefer a balance of attack and defence, and are known to go into battle with sword and shield. They have a natural ability to move fast, and thus attack fast. They make great raiders and pillagers, and will quickly make mincemeat of unarmoured opponents.

This can be done.

Edit: so you want this type of instrumentation, but what kind of style do you want? Do you want something Renaissance (a fairly simple style to emulate and still sound original)? Or do you want the instrumentation to be sort of anachronistic and use sounds not indigenous to the instruments usually? (such as for 'creepy moments').

I just threw a little something together. About 20 seconds of a simple lute duet.

The style would be primarily Renaissance. Lutes, flutes, organs, drums. Although each country/region has their own soundtrack.

EX: Kokaido would have oriental instruments; Wallachia has drums and bagpipes mostly.

Although there is a bit of a modern mix, i thought to add some flanged or squealing guitars as a sort of back ground thing.

As per the Dungeon scenes, lots of justevil chanting and zombie like moaning.

The combat music will depend on the country or place.

Other areas, especially the Hell levels, will diffinetly have way more emphasis on the the flanged, squealing guitars, and just filled with riffs and heavy bass.
