***OFFICIAL*** PIRATES

ooooh. SO!! i was at this museum today, and there was this PIRATE EXHIBIT, it was sooo cool, it was like 2 hours of learning about this real pirate ship that they discovered a while ago. and i learned a whole bunch of stuff LIKE

-apparently pirates didnt actually make people walk the plank, there was only one recorded instance of that ever happening. (if they wanted someone off the ship they might just throw them off, but no actual plank-walking)

-pirate crews would vote on their captain and their whole ship was run quite democratically, and every single crew member would get a fair share of all the loot and everything.

-if one of the crew members lost a limb or suffered any other major injury like that, they were given like compensation, they would get a huge portion of the money/goods

-pirate captains were a lot less harsh than non-pirate captains, plus there were generally more crew members on pirate ships so less work loads for everybody and therefore a better atmosphere

-pirates actually saved a whole bunch of would-be slaves, cause a lot of the slave ships on the way from africa to the new world would be taken by pirates and the pirates would let the africans join up as pirates where they were promised (and delivered) equality and good shares of the riches

-when pirates were taking over other ships, they were really only violent if the other ship didnt cooperate. and when they were taking it over, the pirates would ask the sailors their opinions on the captain, and if the sailors said they had a fair captain, then the pirates would often leave the captain unharmed and with a portion of the gold/money/whatever, but if the sailors said their captain was mean, then the pirates would kill the captain. the sailors could join up with the pirates if they wanted to.

so actually, pirates were a lot more moral than theyre made out to be, it wasnt all just like, RAWR KILLING AND ROBBING. and if you were a pirate, you had to sign an oath that you would be completely loyal to your fellow pirates so everyone pretty much got along and were really good friends.

that is what i learned today. :D
