Translation:
I have a blu-ray player.

PS3 slim boosts PS3 hardware 400% worldwide as Guitar Hero is down 37% year on year in the weekly charts for the 30th August - 5th September 2009

The only other console to see increased sales last week was Xbox360 – with a full week of Elite and Pro SKU price drops, sales were up a further 16% on last week. While the price cuts have evidently done little to offset PS3 slim sales this week, we expect a large decline in PS3 sales over the next three weeks and expect the price cuts from Microsoft to have gone some way to keep them in the game.

A fair proportion of the 550,000 PS3 buyers this week will be existing PS3 owners (especially in Japan) wanting to upgrade to the new machine, maybe 30-40% (as a rough guess), but the remainder will be new buyers - who have been sitting on the fence, waiting for the price to drop. With a very strong line-up of exclusives in the next 6 months this is make or break for PS3 if Sony want to take 2nd place this gen.

In other news this week, Arkham Asylum sailed past the one million barrier, and with good week two drops, should be a strong seller right into the holidays. Wii Sports Resort returns to the number one spot however, total sales at nearly 4 million units now.

Guitar Hero 5 was the big release in America this week, selling around 430,000 units across Xbox360, Wii, PS3 and PS2. This represents around a 37% decline from last year, which can be attributed partly to a yearly decline in Guitar Hero popularity, partly to the upcoming release of Beatles: Rock Band (which should outsell Guitar Hero over 2:1 in the first week) and also the earlier release date this year. With a longer run up to the holidays, Guitar Hero 5 should make up some ground on last year’s version before the holidays kick-in.

btw somebody lend me $200 so i can get a 360 kthx
